Constipation

Some drugs used in cancer treatment can cause constipation. To help prevent this problem:

  • Drink at least 8 to 12 eight-ounce glasses of water per day
  • Drink a hot drink about a half hour before the time you usually have a bowel movement
  • Eat high-fiber foods
  • Exercise (Talk with your doctor about the type of exercise that might be best for you)
  • Add unprocessed wheat bran to foods
  • Ask your doctor for a laxative ( Do not take laxatives or stool softeners without first consulting your doctor)
